The US Health Care System has the best medical expertise and the
best clinics/hospitals in the world. If you get sick or injured while studying
in or visiting the United States and receive treatment in a U.S. hospital, you
are guaranteed to be receiving the best medical care in the world.
American or US Health Care System
For all international students studying in the United
States, the U.S. medical system can be said to be very complex and difficult to
understand. That's because the U.S. healthcare system is indeed very complex
and confusing; most native American citizens don't even fully understand it
yet. Here is a short guide to help you better understand the U.S. healthcare
system so you can be fully prepared while studying in the United States.
Quality of the U.S. Healthcare System
The United States has the best medical expertise and the
best clinics/hospitals in the world. If you get sick or injured while studying
in or visiting the United States and receive treatment in a U.S. hospital, you
are guaranteed to be receiving the best medical care in the world.
U.S. spending on health care
The United States spends far more on health care each year
than most other countries; in 2009, U.S. spending on health care accounted for
17.4% of the country's GDP, far exceeding the "developed country average
of 9.6%" (provided by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and
Development The data)". For reference, in second place is the Netherlands,
accounting for 12% of its GDP.

Life Expectancy Assessment
Still, 40 countries, including countries like Chile, still
have higher life expectancy than the United States. In 2000, life expectancy in
the United States ranked 37th in the World Health Organization (WTO) ranking of
health care systems.
Healthcare System Bottom Line
A simple possible explanation for this is that the health
care system does not have as much of an impact on health and longevity as
public health measures and lifestyle. However, on issues such as vaccination,
the United States strictly implements and adheres to protection.
Another possible explanation is that the United States does
not have a national health care policy. Generally speaking, medical insurance
policies will make medical treatment more affordable for the people, and the
reasons include: supply materials can be purchased in bulk; prescription drugs
can control the output and price; and unnecessary external medical intervention
(private institutions) are restricted.
Health Insurance Value
As long as you purchase medical insurance, it will not have
any impact on your ability to study in the United States as an international
student. With health insurance, you are entitled to high-quality medical
services provided by the U.S. medical system. However, without valid health
insurance, you may find that not only are you unable to receive medical care in
the United States, but you may be required to bear and pay substantial medical
bills yourself should you become sick or injured.
U.S. Health Insurance
Healthcare in the United States is provided only by private
hospitals and clinics. Most U.S. citizens therefore have private health
insurance, generally provided by an individual's employer and extended to their
immediate family members. Some insurance plans are offered by federal or state
governments, unions, or individuals. In recent years, as medical costs have increased,
employers have increasingly required employees to also bear the cost of health
insurance. About half of all U.S. citizens with private health insurance pay
for a plan out of pocket, and each plan is tailored to their own circumstances.
After retirement, U.S. citizens can receive assistance through the
government-provided Medicare program. Low-income families and individuals can
receive assistance through Medicaid.
The coverage offered by different health insurance plans
varies widely. There may or may not be large or small deductibles, co-pays, or
coinsurance rates; the insured may be required to pay a large, small, or no
cost; some plans provide coverage for dependents , others are not included.
U.S. Health Insurance Options for non-U.S. Citizens
Just as the law does not require U.S. citizens to purchase
medical insurance, the United States also does not require F1 visa
international students and F2 visa dependents to purchase insurance (but your school
has the right to require international students to have an insurance plan that
meets their requirements before they can choose courses). The reason is that
medical expenses in the United States are very expensive. For visas such as J1
and J2, the U.S. government still requires them to purchase medical insurance
that meets the minimum coverage. Although you, as an international student, may
think that you do not need to purchase American student medical insurance when
studying in the United States, we strongly recommend that you purchase a
medical insurance plan, and many times your school will also require you to
hold a medical insurance plan.
If you become sick or injured while studying in the United
States, and you do not purchase appropriate U.S. insurance, you will be at risk
of paying huge medical bills or even not receiving medical care at all.
American hospitals only require patients to pay in advance when dealing with
emergencies. If the patient does not have medical insurance or proof of deposit,
the hospital can refuse treatment. The study found that the average hospital
emergency room charge in the United States is about $1,233, which is 40% higher
than the cost of monthly rent in the United States. Therefore, we strongly
recommend that you purchase appropriate U.S. medical insurance before traveling
to the United States or immediately upon arrival.
International students who have been studying in the United
States for more than a few months can consult with an agency that has
experience and understands the U.S. health care system and international
student insurance about a comprehensive U.S. medical insurance plan.

You should also note that if you are a permanent resident of the United States, not all insurance institutions can provide you with insurance after the first year in the United States; generally after the first year, you need to transfer to a domestic insurance company to purchase it.
